General Statistics about your Web Content

The general statistics of your web content can contain significant insights into your website. We provide information about the following measures:

  • Characters per Word
  • Number of Characters
  • Number of Sentences
  • Number of Syllables
  • Number of Words
  • Syllables per Word
  • Words per Sentence

On its own, most of these basic measures are not particularly insightful. When, however, looked at across multiple web pages they can provide information into the consistency throughout the entire website. In the English language the average characters per word in actual use is approximately five where 80% are between two and seven characters long. When applying similar tests to a dictionary then this increase to a number closer to eight where 80% of the words are between four and ten characters long. These tests sort of provide proof that more complex text results in a higher average number of characters per word. The site wide stats can also highlight pages with disproportionately high or low number  words or sentences.
